In addition, residents can not be charged higher rates for their policies because of their health. This is called community rating. If you encounter a problem with your state-regulated health plan and you are unable to resolve directly with the plan, file a complaint with the Department of Insurance. They may be able to provide assistance in reaching a conclusion.

Family Health Plus is a program of health care for uninsured adults aged between 19 and 64 who have incomes too high to qualify for New York 's Medicaid program. Family Health Plus is available for single people, couples without children and parents with limited incomes. They must meet the residence qualifications of Immigration certain to qualify.
If you or your loved one is unable to see a doctor because the cost of care, there may be a community health clinic in your local area. These clinics generally are free or require a very low pay for patients to receive care. Find a clinic in your area.
